Editorial guidelines

How we research, review, and correct our insurance content — so you can trust what you read.

CoverMarket publishes plain-language guides to help Canadians understand coverage before they buy. These guidelines describe how that content is created and kept accurate. Our articles are educational information, not personalized insurance advice.

How we research and source

We build our guides from primary, authoritative sources: insurer policy documents, provincial and federal regulators, and published industry data. Where a claim depends on a specific figure or rule, we trace it back to its source rather than repeating what other sites say.

We write in plain language and explain the trade-offs of each coverage type honestly — including who a product may not be right for — instead of steering you toward a sale.

How we review and fact-check

Every guide is reviewed for accuracy and clarity before it is published. We check that product descriptions, eligibility notes, and any illustrative figures are current and clearly labelled as examples, never presented as a quote or a guaranteed price.

When coverage rules, pricing conventions, or regulations change, we update the affected guides rather than leaving stale information in place.

Licensed-advisor review

Content that describes how coverage works is reviewed for accuracy by licensed insurance advisors before it is relied upon in a guide. Their role is to keep our explanations faithful to how policies actually behave.

Our guides remain general educational information. They are not a recommendation, and they do not replace advice tailored to your situation from a licensed advisor.

Corrections and updates

We date our guides and revise them as products and regulations evolve. When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and, where a change is material, note that the guide was updated.

If you spot an error, tell us through our contact page and we will review it.
